4-Day Miracle: How Boby Chemmanur and the World Saved Abdul Rahim
An extraordinary piece of history has been officially recognized. Boby Chemmanur (India) has been honored with a prestigious world record title: Largest Short Duration Humanitarian Crowdfunding Campaign.
This certificate celebrates an incredible achievement—raising ₹47.87 crore ($5.7 million USD) globally, including a critical ₹34 crore in just four days.
Here is the real-life story of how an entire community united to change a man’s destiny.
The Man in the Shadow: Abdul Rahim
Twenty years ago, Abdul Rahim, a simple driver from Kozhikode, Kerala, went to Saudi Arabia to support his family. While working, a tragic accident occurred. A paralyzed teenager under his care passed away after his life-support device was accidentally dislodged. Under local laws, Rahim was held responsible and sentenced to death.
For two decades, he remained in prison, facing execution.
The 15 Million Riyal Ultimatum
In early 2024, a final hope emerged. The victim’s family agreed to pardon Rahim on one condition: payment of 15 million Saudi Riyals (about ₹34 crore) as blood money (Diyyah).
The deadline was approaching quickly. By April 2024, only ₹13 crore had been raised, leaving a shortfall of ₹21 crore.

Seeing a life at stake, Boby Chemmanur stepped in.
- The Begging Drive (Yachaka Yatra): He traveled across Kerala with a donation box, personally collecting contributions from the public.
- Technology Support: A mobile app called Save Abdul Rahim was launched.
- Community Participation: Local communities organized fundraising efforts—tea stalls donated daily earnings, auto drivers contributed, and neighborhoods held food-based challenges.
In just four days, the remaining ₹21 crore was raised. Hundreds of thousands of people contributed small amounts, creating a massive collective impact.
The Final Tally and Homecoming
Even after reaching the target, donations continued, bringing the total to ₹47.87 crore. The excess ₹13.87 crore is being secured to establish a stable wholesale tea business for Rahim.
After completing legal formalities, Abdul Rahim finally returned (28-May-2026) home to Kerala as a free man. He was received at the airport by Boby Chemmanur and a large, welcoming crowd.
